How does Semaglutide work?

Helps you to feel fuller

Semaglutide slows down digestion, which can help you feel full for longer and reduce your calorie intake

Regulates appetite

Semaglutide mimics the GLP-1 hormone, which is made in your intestine and signals the brain to feel full and suppresses appetite.

Reduces cravings

Semaglutide reduces the preference for fatty foods. Without cravings, it becomes much easier to establish long term healthy diet routines.

Semaglutide side effects

Semaglutide side effects

As with all medicines, Wegovy may cause some side effects. Mostly, these should be mild and are likely to lessen or even disappear after a few weeks of starting treatment. Your weightloss consultant will advise you on management of these side effects to minimise any discomfort.

The most common side effects with use of Wegovy are gastrointestinal in nature: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation. These side effects tend to subside once you have been stabilised on a dosage, though they may restart when you increase your dosage again.

You may also experience a headache, tiredness and feeling dizzy. This may be due to the reduced calorie intake caused by the medication, but we will check at regular intervals to ensure this is nothing to worry about.

There are some rare side effects that are associated with Semaglutide. Rarely, some may experience something called pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. Semaglutide can stimulate the pancreas and it may cause it to become inflamed in rare cases. We will run through these risks with you when you first start treatment. Should you have any concerns about this whilst on treatment, simply book an appointment with us and we can explore this.
